Shoulder Surgery

One of the most flexible joints in the human body is the shoulder, which in addition to its high efficiency, is also very vulnerable and should be treated in case of any complication. Shoulder surgery is one of the treatment methods, which is necessary in cases when other treatments do not solve the problem and the patient has suffered an emergency. It should be noted that delays in shoulder surgery, if the need for it has been approved by the surgeon, will lead to other irreparable complications and injuries.

Types of Shoulder Injuries

The shoulder joint consists of three bones: scapula, arm and clavicle, which with their high flexibility in the joint, allow us to move our arms in all directions, indicating that if the slightest damage occurs, it quickly reacts to pain or the patient experiences difficulty moving in that area. The bones of shoulder joint, muscles, tendons, nerves and bursa are the parts that are always exposed to damage and the range of these injuries is very large. These include; inflammation of the tendons and bursa, tendon rupture, dislocation, fracture, rheumatism, osteoarthritis, and etc.

Types of Shoulder Surgery Procedures

Shoulder surgery is appropriate for treatment of shoulder and joints injuries. This surgery is divided into two general methods of open shoulder surgery and arthroscopic surgery (laser surgery) of the shoulder.

Open shoulder surgery: In this method, small incision or incisions of a few inches are made in the Intended area. This method is very suitable when the patient experiences a severe and complex rupture or requires a tendon transfer.

Arthroscopic Surgery: In this method, the shoulder surgeon first makes incisions inside the joint and then uses an arthroscope device composed of a thin pencil-like device with a small lens and a lighting system inside to view inside the joint. The surgeon looks at the images sent to the monitor and determine the type of surgery needed based on the complications occurred. One of the advantages of this method is that the patient is treated on an outpatient basis.

According to what mentioned before, in case of any injury in the shoulder area, see a specialist and reputable doctor to provide the best treatment. Dr. Amir Sobhani, an orthopedic specialist and shoulder and elbow surgeon, will guide you in this matter.
